![]() Congratulations - and many thanks - to our newest club chair (Community Service) Danny Hall... Danny not only donated a large sum through the bequest option of the Rotary Foundation (more information here) - he also helped us celebrate by baking homemade pies from local ingredients! Kudos Danny! Team GSE @ the Pinnacles 10/14/2009
![]() Here’s a photo from the GSE Team Brazil hike at The Pinnacles on October 10th. Team Leader, Dayton Hughes, joined by Team Members Kim Teffeteller, Carolyn Swanson, Paul Farmer, Kristen Roberts and Christopher Ward. We saw the most amazing male tarantula! From the President: October 16th 10/14/2009
Our Horse Around 4 Good Cause and Fall Fellowship Fiesta generated new prospective members, positive energy and funds for our projects— all three wonderful steps toward our goal. Also, special thanks to those who stepped up to volunteer over the weekend for the Zone Institute events at the Hyatt. We rose and shined (at 5 am!) We have a series of great speakers coming to our club-- including MIIS graduate students and prospective member, Adam Stieglitz with Team Peru & The Becky Fund on the 21st and MIIS IEP Professor Jason Scorse on the 28th. Attend, absorb and appreciate! Mark your calendars for Wednesday evening, November 18th for our fundraiser at Monterey Bowling Lanes, Bowl-io to End Polio! It’s Rotary Vocational Month, so stay tuned-- and stay in love with what you do. From the President: August 16 08/17/2009
Summer temperatures reached our coastal community this August. Monterey’s tourists clad in shorts and aloha shirts strolled the town. Our Club, meanwhile, welcomed many folks in blue blazers. Cool Rotary speakers in blue blazers-- all delivering hot topics! Rotary Youth Exchange participants, Christie Pierce and Amanda Palmer, with their uniquely-adorned blue blazers spoke to us on August 5. Christie shared a spirited account of his dear Argentine Rotary family, his life and many travels in the Southern Hemi. Amanda shared insights and stories of Istanbul casting a warm light on the amazing Turkish culture as Amanda sang in Turkish for us. Both YE returnees impressed and inspired us. Gracias! Teşekkürler! More blue blazers arrived on August 12th! Our ADGs John and Ann, our DGE Young and our grateful membership welcomed DG Bob and his wife, Sherryl, to our club. DG Bob touched us all with his story of becoming a “real Rotarian” in Mexico with Project Wheelchairs. DG Bob motivated us to wake each day ready to share a smile and perform a random act of kindness. In addition to bestowing a revered Pilot’s Pin on Stephanie Lyon for outstanding club service, DG Bob recognized two new Paul Harris Fellows in our club, Danny Hall and Brad Zielinski. Congrats all! Dean Yuwei Shi of MIIS also addressed our club on August 12th with a focus on our host’s (MIIS) innovative future programs. Hmm...what did Yuwei wear to speak to our club on a warm Wednesday? That’s right— a blue blazer! Cool! Rotary Youth Exchange returnees visit RCMI 08/17/2009
![]() One year after their first visit, our Club welcomed back two Rotary Youth Exchange returnees. Amanda Palmer and Christie Pierce join President Dayton to celebrate their wonderful experiences abroad. Amanda sings of the richness of Turkish culture and Christie embraced the Argentine lifestyle and people. We wish them a lifetime of exchanges! ![]() Please bring one or more items of non-perishable food for the local food bank to our next meetings! Community Service Chair Richard Fontana is researching our opportunities to help in Monterey with Community Gardening and the Food Bank. If you are willing to donate your time to community gardening or collecting food for the food bank, please contact him and he will share more information at upcoming meetings. Though our membership level is a feat in itself for such a young club, take a look at these new online statistics: From our District Governor 07/10/2009
![]() It is an honor and privilege to be your District 5230 Governor. Sharryle and I look forward to seeing you as we visit all of our great clubs. We have been on the tarmac for two plus years….but now the Rotary International Flight 5230 has taken off. We look forward with your help to have a very successful journey. In the 2009-10 Rotary year our International President John Kenny has selected the theme “The Future of Rotary Is In Your Hands” and in these times of uncharted economic waters it seem the theme may be more meaningful now then when it was conceived. I feel very confident that we will weather the storm and great things are in our future. As each Rotary years brings a fresh start with the changing of leadership at all levels, the system creates challenges of maintaining continuity from year to year, but it also allows for new ideas to come forth to approach the many challenges we face. Our 2009-10 leadership team is in place for the year and I feel very positive that all clubs will benefit greatly from the talent, spirit and expertise of those that have accepted the challenge to lead our great District. From the President - July 1, 2009 07/08/2009
